Choosing Bridal Hair Accessories – 2 simple steps
There’s plenty of choice when it comes to choosing
bridal hair accessories
and plenty of places to buy them from. Often brides struggle to even know where to start, so here is my blog post of telling you the 2 simple steps to take when choosing bridal hair accessories. Once you read them the become oh so obvious but when you’re feeling so overwhelmed by the options available, starting at the most basic decision can really help you move forward.
So one of the first things you need to make a decision on is whether to buy them from a bridal shop or an online boutique.
1. Choosing Bridal Hair Accessories – Decide where to buy your hair accessories from
Bridal shop V’s Online
One of the easiest options is to buy them from the same bridal store that you bought your wedding dress. Not just because you’re already in the shop having the discussion with the sales assistant, but because you will get the opportunity to try on all the different styles they have while wearing your dress.
There’s a downside to this to choosing your bridal hair accessories here though, that’s the issue of choice. The bridal store’s main goal is to sell you a wedding dress, all other items are secondary and considered a cross sell and it stands to reason that there would be less choice in them.
Some dress shop will have more choice than others. They may even will a customisation service where you can add specific colours to your accessories if they work closely with the designer. This is an excellent service allowing you to get exactly what you want.
But if you find that your bridal shop doesn’t have the accessories that you want or you went the less traditional route of buying your dress online, then your next logical step is to looking to choosing bridal hair accessories online.
You will find millions of websites selling tiaras and other accessories. Some will be handmade and some will be mass manufactured. They will all differ in quality and price. The trick is to find an accessory where you’re happy with the quality and are comfortable paying the price. If you’re ever in doubt then contact the website owner and ask about their returns policy.
Because you don’t have the immediate luxury of trying it on with your dress you take a bigger gamble that it may not look right, but with a decent returns policy your risk is minimised . By law in the UK most items bought online are protected under the Distance Selling Regulations which gives you a 7 day period to decide whether you want to return an item. Items won by auctions and personalised goods aren’t covered by this, so again check with the business owner about their particular returns policy.
2, Choosing bridal hair accessories – Narrowing Down your choice of wedding hair accessories
Narrowing down your choice is the next logical step in choosing your bridal hair accessories. Buying them online often leaves you with an inability to make a decision because of the sheer amount of choice. If you find that you’re suffering from this, then take your cues from the detailing on your dress. If it’s decorated with Swarovski crystals then find a hair accessory with matching crystals. This should narrow down the choices to roughly a third. We have a free guide for helping you deal with the overwhelm that results from having too many options – check out the bottom of this post for details.
Another way of narrowing down this huge amount of choice is by picking your bridal hairstyle first. For example traditional tiaras look best with hair up, while headbands and side tiaras look great with your hair tied up or down. If you’re going to choose a comb or grip you’ll need at least some of your hair up to give the accessory an anchor so it will stay in place.
